Starting August 13, 2026, Thinkific is increasing prices by approximately 10% on several subscription plans. Existing monthly customers may be able to move to the current annual rate before the deadline and delay the new rate until their 2027 renewal. That is a legitimate decision window—but it is not a universal coupon or a reason to buy 12 months of software before your business is ready.
The quick answer
Consider switching to annual if you are an existing monthly customer, Thinkific already supports an active course or learning business, you expect to use it for another year, and Thinkific confirms the rate and renewal date for your account.
Keep the flexibility of monthly billing if you are still validating demand, may change platforms, have an uncertain launch date, or would weaken your cash position by paying a year upfront. A lower annual equivalent is not a saving if the platform is abandoned early.
What is changing on August 13?
Thinkific describes this as its first subscription price increase since 2022. The official notice says the increase affects Basic, Start, Grow, legacy Pro, and Fixed Growth plans, across monthly and annual billing. Expand is not changing. Existing nonprofit customers and customers with active account discounts are also described as exempt.
For the main self-serve plans, Thinkific lists these USD changes:
When does the new price apply?
- Monthly customers: Thinkific says the new price applies at the first billing cycle on or after August 13, 2026.
- Annual customers: the new price applies at the next renewal on or after August 13. A renewal before that date keeps the current price until the following renewal.
- Features: Thinkific says the price change does not alter plan features, content, courses, or learner access.
Who can preserve the current annual rate?
The official notice says an existing monthly customer who switches to annual billing before August 13 can move to the current annual rate. The new price would then apply at the next renewal in 2027. Thinkific also describes the standard annual-billing discount as 25%, or 20% for legacy plans.
At the older listed USD rates, paying annually rather than 12 separate monthly payments reduces the 12-month subscription total by $156 on Basic, $300 on Start, or $600 on Grow. That comparison is arithmetic, not a promise about eligibility or the price shown to you.
The lock-in wording is directed at existing monthly customers. New buyers should not assume the older rate is available before August 13. Check the current public pricing page and final checkout, and contact Thinkific if the applicable amount is unclear.

An annual commitment is easier to justify when Thinkific already supports a working business. Look for all of these conditions:
- You have launched courses, memberships, coaching, or training on Thinkific.
- Active learners or customers depend on the platform.
- You expect to keep the same plan for at least 12 months.
- The upfront payment does not take cash away from more important work.
- Your account shows—or Thinkific confirms—the price and renewal terms you expect.
When monthly billing may be worth the higher rate
Monthly billing buys optionality. That can be more valuable than a lower annual equivalent when:
- You have not validated demand for the course or learning product.
- You are still comparing Thinkific with Teachable, Kajabi, or another LMS.
- Your launch date, course format, payment setup, or audience is uncertain.
- Paying for a full year would create cash-flow pressure.
Thinkific says customers can cancel through account settings and retain access through the paid period. The official notice also describes a possible pro-rata refund for unused annual time when required by the customer's jurisdiction. Do not interpret that as a universal annual refund policy; confirm the terms that apply to you.
Use this four-question decision test
- Will I realistically use Thinkific for the next 12 months?
- Have I tested my real creator, learner, payment, and reporting workflow?
- Can I pay the annual amount without weakening the rest of the business?
- Has Thinkific confirmed what my account pays now and at renewal?
If all four answers are yes, annual billing may be the lower-cost path. If one answer is materially uncertain, monthly flexibility can protect you from a larger commitment mistake.
Does the increase change whether Thinkific is worth considering?
A price increase alone does not decide platform value. The useful comparison is the plan you actually need versus the work and separate software it replaces.
Thinkific's current public plan matrix describes course hosting, site and landing-page tools, checkout, communities, digital products, student management, and reporting. Higher plans add capabilities such as live cohorts, memberships, certificates, group orders, deeper analytics, API access, and increased support. These are vendor-published capabilities, not an OfferSift hands-on test.
Thinkific may fit creators and training businesses that want to own the brand and learner relationship. It cannot validate demand, create an audience, or guarantee revenue. Test the business and workflow—not only the software feature list.
What to do before August 13
Existing customers: review actual usage, compare the 12-month totals, confirm the conversion price, record the renewal date, and save the applicable written terms before switching.
New buyers: use the current pricing page and evaluation period to build something representative, confirm the plan and checkout total, and ignore coupon pages that cannot show an official discount.
The deadline creates a decision point, not permission for fake urgency. Switch when usage is proven and the account-level math works. Stay monthly when flexibility protects you from a more expensive mistake.
